Charles Lamb partnered with designer Walter Crane for the cover design of this edittion of his Masque of Days, published by Cassell & Co. of London in 1901. Masque of Days is an interesting work - it's part picture book, part a subversion of even then-antique books of days, and the book itself is filled with wonderful Aesthetic (the movement, not a e s t h t h e t i c , but that, too) illustrations evoking the earliest days of the Arts & Crafts movment. The cover design itself is elegant line art, evoking the changing of the seasons. And this - is perfect for writing in, in any season.
